WHY US
Why Families Choose Northern Lights Labradors
01
Health-Focused Breeding
Our puppies are raised with health as a priority from day one. Each puppy is vet-checked, vaccinated, and dewormed before going home, with health records provided. We focus on responsible breeding practices to support long-term wellbeing and peace of mind for families.
02
Family-Raised & Socialized
All puppies are raised in our home and introduced to everyday sights, sounds, and handling. This early socialization helps them grow into confident, well-adjusted companions that adapt easily to family life, children, and new environments.
03
Transparent Adoption Process
We follow a clear and thoughtful adoption process designed to ensure the right match for both puppy and family. Interested buyers start by completing our puppy questionnaire, after which we guide you through availability, reservations, and pickup details.
04
Ongoing Support & Guidance
Our relationship doesn’t end at pickup day. We provide guidance on feeding, care, and the transition to your home, and we’re always available to answer questions as your puppy grows. Our goal is a smooth start and lifelong success.
ABOUT
A Small, Family-Focused Labrador Breeding Program

Northern Lights Labradors is a small, hobby breeding program established in 2012 and based in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, neighboring Woodbury in Washington County. Our journey began with a lifelong love for Labrador Retrievers as loyal family companions, which naturally grew into active participation in AKC conformation events across the United States and Canada. We are proud to have produced AKC Champion Labradors, as well as service dogs for PTSD veterans, therapy dogs, hunting companions, and, most importantly, devoted family pets. Our Labradors are always pets first and an integral part of our daily lives.
We raise our Labrador Retriever puppies in our home, where early development, temperament, and confidence are carefully nurtured. Puppies are introduced to Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) between days 3–16 and are gradually exposed to a variety of sounds and environments to support resilience and adaptability. Their puppy room, located in our sunroom just off the kitchen, provides a safe, enriching space filled with rotating toys, scents, and experiences designed to promote healthy growth and curiosity. We also begin early potty training around three to four weeks of age to help ease the transition into their new homes.
Our commitment to health and responsible breeding is reflected in our puppy care process. Each puppy is microchipped, examined by a licensed veterinarian, follows a deworming protocol, and goes home with AKC limited registration and a health guarantee. New families receive a puppy packet, starter food, and a familiar toy to help their puppy settle comfortably. AKC limited registration still allows participation in a wide range of AKC events, including agility, obedience, dock diving, scent work, and therapy certification—activities we love seeing our puppies enjoy beyond the show ring.
Northern Lights Labradors has placed puppies with families throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, and Thunder Bay, Ontario. We are located a short drive from Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP). While we do not ship puppies, they may fly in-cabin with their new owners, or delivery arrangements can be made in advance at the buyer’s expense. Staying connected with our puppy families is important to us, and many families return for a second Labrador or refer friends and relatives—something we are incredibly proud of.
At Northern Lights Labradors, our mission is to raise healthy, well-socialized Labrador Retrievers that thrive as lifelong companions. We value responsibility, transparency, and long-term support, and when you bring home a puppy from us, you become part of the Northern Lights family. We are honored to play a role in creating lasting bonds between our Labradors and the families who love them.
